If there are just one or two of you coming to stay with us, finding a reasonably priced transfer can be difficult. Ben’s Bus is a good option, but not many people think of public transport. Actually, it’s a very viable option, especially from Grenoble (Chambery and Geneva are a little trickier, although Altibus provides very reasonable services from Lyon and Geneva).
In this blog, I’m going to tell you how to get from Grenoble to La Tania using only public transport and what the approximate cost will be (as of November 2022)
Grenoble Alpes Isère Airport to Grenoble train station
The regular ACTIBUS shuttle service connects Grenoble Airport to Grenoble train station in 45 minutes. Shuttle schedules are set according to flight departures and arrivals (non-private flights).
Schedules and ticket sales will be available on the Actibus website from the middle of November
At the time of writing (8th November 2022) advertised prices are as follows:
- Adult one way €17 / round trip €27 – Child under 12 €13 / round trip €22 – Child under 2 free
- The price of the ticket includes 1 item of checked baggage
- Additional baggage (suitcase/ski/ snowboarding…): 5 €
Grenoble train station to Moutiers train station
The journey by train (SNCF) takes between 1 hour 40 minutes and 2 hours 40 minutes, depending on your departure time.
As an example, if you’re travelling on Sunday 22nd January 2023 at around 2pm, you will catch a TGV direct to Moutiers with one 14 minute stop in Albertville.
The price return (again at the time of writing) is 42.40€ return. Tickets can be booked on the SNCF Connect site
Be warned though: the trains get booked up very early on, especially at the weekends in the season, especially the ‘grande vitesse’. For example, the 1:56 train I mentioned above is already fully booked.
Moutiers train station to Le Praz
You’re only 20 minutes away from La Tania by car, but this is where it gets a bit fiddly!
The first bit’s easy; a 4-minute flat walk from the train station to the bus station (gare routière – it’s signposted, but use Google Maps as a back-up)
From the bus station, you will need the Altibus S85 (or T5) service to Le Praz. Again a warning: the last bus on a Sunday is at 16:10.
The price return is 18€ and tickets can be booked on the Altibus website.
Le Praz to La Tania
The last leg of your journey will be one that many of you are familiar with; the free ‘navette’ from Le Praz to La Tania. For those of you that don’t know, the bus stop for La Tania is now located by the new ‘Alpinium’, about 100m along the La Tania road, by the ski jumps.
The Mairie de Courchevel hasn’t published the timetable for 2022/23 yet (and when they do they’ll keep changing them, if last year is anything to go by), but last season the navette ran roughly every hour and was a line B (or sometimes a line C!).
As I said, it’s free. Just hop on and relax for the few minutes up to La Tania – you don’t need to show anything, not even a lift pass. The bus will drop you opposite Le Taiga restaurant, from where you can walk up to our chalets.
Your return journey should cost you no more than 90€ (£80), so a huge saving on a ‘traditional’ transfer, but obviously you’ll have to decide whether it’s worth the extra hassle!
Worth considering: taxi from Moutiers to La Tania
The taxi operators know you haven’t got a lot of choice in getting from Moutiers to La Tania, so you can expect to pay quite a bit – probably 50€ to 60€ one-way.
This may seem a lot, but you’re still looking at less than £100 in total from Grenoble to La Tania, one way. This does make the journey relatively hassle-free and does have the significant benefit of taking you to our chalet door from the train station. The price is about the same as Ben’s Bus, but that will only get you to Moutiers.
